ANSWERS TO YOUR FACIAL BLEMISH QUESTIONS

Face Blemishes
question from Mehreen

Hi Mehreen,
Unfortunately, some of us just get blackheads and spots. It could be caused from things like it's hereditary, lack of a good diet, not enough exercise, regular good skin care for your particular skin type, just to name a few. If you can check with your doctor, that is my first recommendation. If he or she says it's o.k., try different brands to see what works best for you. The main thing is to find a good skin care line and be faithful.  Use it twice a day and then twice or three times a week, exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and clay mask to deep cleanse and clarify. It's like exercise, it only works if you do it regularly. For the best makeup, I recommend that you use a mineral makeup powder. It is a wonderful product that will cover and some brands claim to help with problem skin. Good luck and I hope that helps.

FACIAL BLEMISH
question from renuka

Hi Renuka,
If you don't want to see the black marks, there are a couple of things you can try.  One is a bleaching cream.  They work slowly and will lighten, over time, the entire area to which they are applied. Be sure to check with your doctor or heath care practitioner before using a product like this.  If he/she is a dermatologist, they may recommend a particular cream or they may also recommend the removal of the black spots with laser treatments or other methods available to them.  The other idea is to get a really good concealer from a makeup professional store.  Apply the concealer first, patting it on the spots (don't drag or pull it because it won't cover very well), then cover with your normal foundation and powder. I hope these ideas will help you!

FACIAL BLEMISH
question from Krithicka

Hi Krithicka,
Good question!  I would look for a heavy concealer and apply that prior to using foundation makeup.  Apply the concealer by patting it on just in the problem areas. Also, I would recommend a mineral makeup as you can apply layers to "conceal" any imperfections in the skin whether it's discoloration, scaring or just redness.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.

FACIAL BLEMISH
question from Carley

Hi Carley,
I would check with your doctor just to see if you can figure out what's causing them.  If your doctor says it's o.k., you can use a concealer but, make sure it is non-occlusive (won't block pores).  Then, pat some powder on to "set" the concealer.  Note: green or yellow concealer will offset the redness if you can find one that is non-occlusive.

Facial Blemish
question from Lolly

Hi Lolly,
I love your name!  For these problems, since I'm not a doctor or even an aesthetician, I always suggest you speak to your doctor first.  Once he/she has determined it is o.k. for you to try some cosmetics, this is what I would suggest.  I would first use a really good concealer on the affected areas.  For any redness, use a green or yellow concealer. Apply by patting it on for maximum coverage.  Then, I would use a good mineral makeup powder.  You can apply it in as many layers as you need to cover the discolorations and it still looks natural and some companies even claim it skin care in your makeup!  It's a bit tricky to use but, be sure to get the primer and the recommended brush to apply. (Always choose makeup products that are non-occlusive and non-comedigenic (don't block pores and allow the skin to breathe). Then allow yourself some time to play with it and see what look is best for you.  Good luck and I hope this helps.

Face Blemish / Pimples
question from Serena

Hi Serena,
Scars from pimples should fade over time.  Some say that vitamin E will help to fade the scar faster.  If you decide to try this, use it at night so, your skin doesn't look oily during the day.  Also, there are some moisturizers with bleaching ingredients that may help, too. To conceal it just use a concealer that matches your skin best.  Apply it by patting it on with your ring finger (the one next to your pinkie) then, apply foundation and/or powder over it to blend it with the rest of your face.

MY QUESTION:

Face Blemish / Pimples
question from Poorni

Dear Poorni,
There are lots of reasons people have pimples.  For some, it could be hereditary, stress, poor diet, to suggest a few.  Some are able to control it with diet and a good skin care regimen.  So, make sure you are eating a good, healthy diet and drinking plenty of water each day.   Try to get enough sleep and exercise to help minimize stress.  For skin care, use products that are especially designed for oily and/or acne skin.  It is really important that you wash your face morning and at night.  Use a moisturizer without any oil in it.  (Your skin needs oil and water to look healthy and since you are producing the oil, you only need to use a moisturizer that will help replenish the water.)  For makeup, use oil free foundation and powder.  Throughout the day, you can minimize the appearance of oiliness with blotting papers.  Just lightly pat them on and they have a powdered side that will soak up any excess oil.  Good luck and let me know if that helps.

Face Blemish / Pimples
question from Tabatha

Hi Tabatha,
For any redness or splotches, I usually recommend mineral makeup powder.  They are usually all natural and some claim to be safe enough to use right after facials.  For especially red areas, you will need to reapply until the desired coverage is reached.  If you haven't used a mineral makeup yet, be prepared to try it a few times until you've mastered the application.  Make sure to purchase the recommended primer and brush as they truly do make all the difference in the outcome.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Facial Blemish/Pimples
question from Jodie

Hi Jodie,
Well, to conceal a spot on your chin, I would recommend a concealer under your makeup.  Concealers tend to be thicker than foundation and therefore, will cover and stay in place better.  Pat it the concealer into the spot or use a concealer brush.  Next, when you apply foundation to the area, pat it in that area.  Don't drag your fingers across as this will take the concealer with it, leaving your spot to show through your foundation again.  Lastly, seal it all in by patting your powder over the foundation, gently not dragging it.

MY QUESTION:

i have a spot on my chin, how do i cover it with makeup without it looking orange?

Face Blemish/Pimples
question from Karina

Hi Karina,
To cover up spots, I use concealer. If the spots are dark or red, use a green concealer to neutralize the color then, the skin tone concealer over it and liquid, cream foundation, powder or mineral makeup powder to complete the look. To apply each layer, use a concealer brush or your ring finger and pat the product on. If you are patting the product on instead of "dragging" the sponge or powder pad, the concealer will stay on and you will get the desired coverage. Concealers can come in kits with green and a medium, dark or light to cover the green or you can find them separately. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

MY QUESTION:

how do you cover up spots?

Face Blemish/Pimples
question from Clair

Hi Kendra,

I always suggest that you are using good skin care before attempting makeup just to keep your skin in its optimum condition. This gives a good canvas to "paint" on and will help to create a smooth canvas.  So, make sure you are at least, cleansing, toning and applying the proper moisturizer to you skin.  In addition, you may want to consider an exfoliater (removes dead skin cells), clarifying mask (deep cleanses) and/or a moisture mask (to keep the skin hydrated, soft and supple). Next, I will answer your question about makeup and concealing the pimples below your cheeks. I would go with a mineral makeup powder. It's a bit tricky at first, but some of the brands come with a dvd to help you learn to apply it.  The main key is to not give up after the first application.  Most of the brands are all natural, less irritating, provide natural sunscreen and look fresh all day.  For coverage in troubled areas, simply add another layer to the area or use the powder first with a concealer brush and layer over the rest of the face.  Be sure to use the kabuki brush provided by the manufacturer (some come with, others are purchased separately) and the primer. Good luck and let me know if that helps.

Hi Kendra,
As described in your previous question, the mineral makeup foundation powder works extremely well for covering imperfections such as acne scars, pimples, redness or other discolorations.  Thank you for your questions.

FACE BLEMISH/PIMPLES
question from Antonia

Hi Antonia,
For big pimples and breakouts, I use concealer with green in it (this offsets the redness). Pat it on, then pat on foundation over that and finally seal it all in with powder.  Don't drag your fingers, brush or powder pad over it as that will just remove what you've applied.
