Hi Tegan, When using cosmetics, there's always a risk of reaction or damages although it's pretty low. Be sure to replace your mascara every three months whether you use it or not. My favorite "cheap" mascara is by far Maybelline Great Lash. It's the one in the pink tube with the bright green cap and you can find it at any pharmacy. The colors range from brownish/black to blackest black. I don't usually endorse a particular product unless I have used it myself. It's a great product at a great price. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
Is there a cheap mascara that wouldn't damage my eyelashes?
Mascara question from Shelby
Hi Shelby, That may be true since, usually you tend to look up while applying the top layer which lifts the bottom lashes up, too. So, I'm going with true. Thanks for the suggestion! Teresa
MY QUESTION:
Is it true that if you apply mascara to your lower lashes before your top lashes you reduce the risk of smearing?
Mascara question from Taten
Hi Taten, Yes, it's great to wear brown eyeliner and black mascara! In fact, I always use black mascara with any color. Dark brown mascara is o.k., too, but black really defines the lashes and makes them "pop". Thanks for your question. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
Is is okay to wear brown eyeliner and black maskara together?
Mascara question from Giggles
Hi Giggles, Yes, it is optional to wear mascara on the bottom lashes. Especially if you are going for a clean, French, black liner on the top and no liner or mascara on the bottom look. In most cases though, if you apply liner to the bottom of the eye, you should have mascara, too. That makes the eye look bigger and finished. Thanks for writing in. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
some people say that your not supposed to apply mascara to the bottom lashes?
Mascara question from Brenda
Hi Brenda, To get long lashes, use a mascara with conditioner and fibers for lengthening. Then, when you apply the mascara, sweep it across the tips of the lashes using the end of the brush. Next, apply the mascara from the eye to the end of the lashes, separating them as you brush out from the eye. Repeat the process if necessary. This will give the appearance of longer, thicker lashes. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
(how do I get) long lashes
MASCARA question from Lisa
Hi Lisa, That sounds like a real problem! Let's see if I can help. It appears that there may be some oil secretions coming from around the eye area and causing the smudge since, you are using a waterproof mascara. So, maybe the problem is not the mascara at all. If you are using an eye cream, pat it only in the areas where there are usually signs of ageing (i.e., the "crows feet", outer corners of the area). Or try an eye gel as they tend to be less oily. If you are using a concealer, it may be too oily so, try patting it with your face powder and/or try a different concealer that is more dry. When using concealer, only use it in the inner area under the eye avoiding the "crows feet" because this will become too "cakey" and make the lines show up more. If you are not using concealer or eye cream this could be natural oil secretions and in that case try using face powder or oil blotting papers that soak up oil. Do this a couple of times a day to keep the area dry and help prevent the smudge. Let me know if this helps you out! Teresa
MY QUESTION:
I have had this problem for many years and no one has been able to help! My waterproof (and I've tried many brands -- cheap and expensive) mascara leaves a smudge shadow under my eyes about 2 hours after I put it on. It doesn't matter if I don't put mascara on my lower lashes -- still happens. Can you help?
MASCARA question from Mickey
Hi Mickey, Thanks for writing in! This is a real problem but, I might be able to help. Instead of focusing on the mascara, try powdering the area or avoid using creams or other "oily" substances around the area while wearing mascara. Also, try using the oil blotting papers throughout the day. Let me know how it goes. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
I have very oily skin and have tried many different mascaras. I CANNOT find one that will not smudge. Are there any mascaras made for oily skin? I am desperate! Even Blinc's Kiss Me mascara starts to fall apart on me.
MASCARA/EYE MAKEUP question from Steph
Hi Steph, There are some great new mascara products out there that really do work from what I have seen. They are very expensive ($100.00 to $150.00) and you need to get them at a department store, high end beauty supply or apothecary type store. They thicken, enhance and even curl the lashes. I have several friends that are using it and swear they see new growth, curling and overall are very happy with the results. As far as, your lashes falling out when you take your make up off, be sure to use a very gentle eye makeup remover and don't pull or tug the area. This is also important for the whole eye area as it is very sensitive. Good luck and let me know if this helps. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
i have horrible lashes and after applying make up they never match. my left eye lashes never go up even after curling them. my lashes are quite short and i have lost many while taking off my make up. what is the thing to do to make my eyes match and curl up?
MASCARA question from Caterina
Hi Caterina, One "trick" I use is to sweep the tip of the mascara over the ends of the lashes, wait a couple of seconds and then brush them out from the roots to the ends with even strokes to ensure that the product is evenly distributed. By starting at the tips, it lengthens the ends, then adding the mascara to the rest of the lashes thickens them, too. Also, make sure to use a volumizing mascara. Another option, is to use a new product that actually promotes growth and volume. It's very expensive ($100.00 - $150.00) but, I know several friends that are so excited about the results, it might be worth a try. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
how do u make u eye lashes longer with mascara?
MASCARA question from Jenny
Hi Jenny, Well, there are these expensive lash conditioner mascaras that are the rage and everyone says they do work. You can get them at any beauty supply but, they are around $75.00 to $110.00. You can also try using this technique: Apply the mascara by sweeping it across the tips of the lashes. Wait a couple of seconds for it to dry then, sweep outwards from the base of the lash to the ends which should be longer because of the earlier application to the tips. Try using several layers of this and your lashes just may look longer and more conditioned. Teresa
MY QUESTION:
I have short, stubby, black eyelashes, and I need a good mascara to thicken, lengthen, and condition my lashes without breaking the budget. Help?
Mascara question from Becky
Hi Becky,
For your mascara problem, I have a couple of thoughts. Lucky you, having long lashes! Maybe just use a clear mascara so that you can shape them with an eye lash curler. The other thought is to make sure to powder or use an oil-blotting paper on the area of the face that is affected a couple of times a day, as the oils from your skin may be interacting with the mascara. By keeping the area dry with powder or oil-blotting papers, you may alleviate the problem.
MY QUESTION:
I have long lashes but never wear mascara because I always have it on my face befor day's end. Even waterproof. What help is there for me?
