ANSWERS TO YOUR UNDER EYE QUESTIONS

Under Eye
question from Linda

Hi Linda,
Bags under the eyes are a common problem that could be hereditary or from environmental circumstances which include smog, stress, lack of a good diet, enough sleep or exercise, or too much alcohol, just to mention a few. So, while you are working on these things, choose an eye cream that has a gel in it or that is specifically for puffiness. To cover "bags" use a green concealer if the area is dark or red then, follow up with either a light, medium or dark concealer depending on your skin tone. I like to use a concealer brush then blend with a sponge wedge or your finger but, you may also just use your finger.  Just don't apply the concealer to the outside of the eye area as this is where lines tend to form or form when you are smiling, laughing, etc., and the concealer will crack and look worse.  So, stay toward the inside where most of the problem occurs anyway. If this makeup help doesn't work for you, you may want to try consulting with a doctor for a more permanent solution.

Concealer
question from Liz

Hi Liz,
To hide bags and purple lines under your eyes, I can recommend a couple of things. The first of which is to make sure you are getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, eating "good for you" foods, and exercising.  All of these things will not only help your under eye bags but, your overall health! Next, use an eye cream with a gel in it.  This is good for the bags under your eyes and will help to draw out impurities that give the appearance of dark circles. Then use a green concealer to neutralize the purple color and a light, medium or dark (whatever you natural skin tone is) concealer over it to match your skin tone and blend it with your foundation. I usually use a concealer brush to apply and a sponge wedge to blend.  Good luck and I hope this helps.

UNDER EYE DARK CIRCLES
question from Neda

Hi Neda,
Dark circles under the eyes are a problem for many because this is very thin skin under the eye area and any impurities will appear through. To help, there are several things you can do.  First, start with diet and exercise.  Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and exercise at least 3 times per week.  This will also help with stress if you are experiencing that, too.  Another idea is to relax with cool slices of cucumber on your eyes.  Close your eyes, apply the slices and just relax in the tub for a bit.  The cucumber is supposed to "draw out the impurities" that are causing the appearance of darkness. Next, when choosing eye care products, choose a gel type eye cream which has ingredients to "draw out the impurities".  Then, when you are applying your makeup, get a concealer package that has green and whatever your skin color is to match it.  Green concealer is to neutralize the darkness and/or redness that may occur.  Tip:  only apply it toward the inside of the eye are where the darkness is and not out toward the outside of the eye area.  This will eliminate the concealer from getting into any lines or wrinkles and causing it to look more wrinkled. Finally, apply the skin color matching concealer over the top of the green concealer so, that you  can blend it with your foundation or powder.  This will give you a nice even canvas to begin to apply color i.e., blush, eye shadow, etc. I hope this will help you.

Under Eye Dark Circles
question from Steff

Hi Steff,
For dark circles under your eyes, there are several things you can try.  Get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, try to eat a proper diet and exercise a few times a week.  Try relaxing in a warm bath with cool sliced cucumbers over your closed eyes.  All of these things may help but, for covering dark circles, it's best to find a concealer kit that has green and a similar skin color to yours (usually light or medium).  Apply the green using your ring finger (the finger that applies least pressure to this very sensitive area) and stay toward the inside of the eye area where the dark circles tend to be, not to the outside where lines and wrinkles tend to form (application of concealer to this area will accentuate the lines, wrinkles).  Next, over the green, apply the skin tone color and blend.  You may want to consider using a concealer brush (flat synthetic brush) for better control of the coverage.  Then smooth out with your finger or a makeup sponge.  I hope that helps.

Under Eye Dark Circles
question from Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Black rings or dark circles under the eye are a common problem but, there are some things you might try.  First of all, we can think about some of the causes of dark circles: lack of sleep, poor diet, not enough water, hereditary, too much soda, stress, etc.  No one really knows what causes them but, you could try making sure to get enough water, sleep, exercise and try to eat well. Another natural remedy could be to put thinly sliced, cool cucumbers on the eyes and relax. For concealing them, the best is to use a green concealer to neutralize them and then add a more natural color on top.  Use the finger next to your smallest finger (pinkie) and pat the green on very lightly and carefully placing it just toward the inside under eye where darkness usually occurs. Then pat the natural color (usually light or medium - whatever color is closest to your skin type) over the top.  Let me know if this helps.
